Pavers are the brick or concrete flooring commonly used on driveways, walkways, patios, and pool decks. They provide a base for the areas in your yard that get the most foot traffic. Though the patterns and types of patio pavers vary, their main purpose is to make your space more welcoming and beautiful. But, like most things, they require some upkeep to maintain their life and design.
At Zerorez® Tampa Bay, we strive to help you keep your home looking and feeling its best, including the outside. We know how to take care of carpets, upholstery, and tile, and we also know the best ways to keep your patios looking new.
Why Should I Clean My Pavers?
Cleaning your pavers ensures that your outdoor deck, patio, and pool area look their best. Regular cleaning protects your outdoor floor from damage and decay caused by dirt and grime buildup and harsh weather. Routine cleaning can also prevent staining and enhance the color of your paved flooring.
While sweeping and washing off your outdoor floors can go a long way in preserving your pavers, you should also consider deep cleaning them every year. This maintenance will ensure they retain their brand-new look and remain nice so that you can enjoy your outdoor flooring for years.
How Often Should I Reseal My Patio Pavers?
The importance of sealing your pavers cannot be overstated. Knowing your pavers are sealed can give you the confidence to host outdoor parties without worrying about spills. A bad storm or extreme heat isn't a problem when your outside floors are sealed. Nobody enjoys weeding, and with sealed flooring, you don't have to worry about trying to pull weeds that grow between your patio pavers.
Depending on the amount of traffic, weather conditions, and age of your pavers, you should consider resealing your outdoor floors every three to five years. Here are a few signs that your pavers might need to be resealed:
The color on and around the pavers looks dull and dusty.
Moss and mold are beginning to grow on and around the pavers.
The pavers absorb water instantly or within ten minutes.
What is the Best Way to Clean Patio Pavers?
There are many different techniques you can use to clean pavers. Depending on the type of paver and the type of sealing, you might adjust your method. Brick pavers may be a little less resilient than ones made of concrete, which could encourage you to use a softer approach. The last thing you want is a scratched or chipped surface, so always be mindful of the type of material you're cleaning.
Follow these steps to make your outside flooring look new:
Step 1: Clear the area of all debris and furniture. This will include removing everything that can be moved from the area, pulling weeds that may have grown between pavers, and sweeping to eliminate dust and debris.
Step 2: Cover the pavers with water. Spray the area until it is completely coated.
Step 3: Mix a solution that is equal parts water and white vinegar. Spray the patio with the mix. Allow the pavers to absorb the solution.
Step 4: Gently scrub the pavers. Don't use a hard brush. Use something soft like a household scrub brush or push broom.
Step 5: Rinse the pavers with water. You can do this with a hose or bucket. Be sure to rinse the whole area. Allow the area to completely air dry before replacing the furniture.
