Five Minute Cleaning Hacks

Five Minute Cleaning Hacks

Fantasy…a perfect, dust free, grease free, sparkling clean home. Reality….dust bunnies, caked-on grease, random items that go uncleaned for weeks or months because you just can’t find the time. WE GET IT. We all love a clean home, but few people have the time or energy required to keep a home as tidy as we’d all like. This is especially true for those pesky items that get the most wear and tear and seem to be the hardest to clean. Being that we’re a carpet cleaning company in St. Pete and Tampa and consider ourselves “cleaning experts”. While we get the big things like that Zerorez clean, we want everything else in your home to get a deep clean too! These easy (we promise) five- minute cleaning hacks that make the rest of your home cleaning seem not so overwhelming.

Remove grease from your stove filter. This one definitely falls into the “How the heck do I clean this thing?” category, but it’s surprisingly very easy to clean! Just fill a large pot with water, add a half cup of baking soda, and place the bottom half of the filter into the water. Bring the water to a boil and after a minute or two, flip the filter so that the top half is now in the water. Let sit for another minute or two or until clean.

Clean tarnished silverware. Is your beautiful silverware or jewelry hiding in a drawer because they’re tarnished beyond an easy, quick wipe down? Here’s a 5-minute way to clean them: fill a saucepan with water, stir in a tablespoon of baking soda, and bring to a boil. Once boiling, add a ball of tin foil (approximately the size of a small fist) and let rest in the boiling water. Place the silverware into the water and let sit for about 10 to 15 seconds. DO NOT touch the silverware after it’s been in the boiling water; use tongs to remove them. Let sit then wipe with a microfiber cloth.

Fill your dishwasher with everything but dishes. There are so many items around your house that are rarely cleaned (or never cleaned), i.e. plastic toys, soap dishes, plastic hairbrushes, and more. With zero effort, you can just throw all those items into the dishwasher and run an everything-but-plates load.

Take the grease burn out of your oven. Got oven grease burn? Don’t just close the door on it. An easy way to remove this is to take equal parts baking soda and water (about ½ cup of each) and combine to form a thick paste. Take a sponge and lather the soda/water paste on top of the burnt-on grease in the oven. Put white distilled vinegar in a spray bottle and spritz evenly on top of the lathered paste. Let sit for about five minutes and wipe clean with a damp rag.

Make hard water stains go away. Are hard water stains making you crazy? We’ve got the fix, and it’s super easy. Fill a large container with equal parts water and white vinegar (enough to fill the container so the glasses can be submerged). Thoroughly rinse glasses with cold water under the faucet, and then place in the water/vinegar mixture. Rotate each glass for a few seconds, remove, and then place lip side down on a dry towel or a drying rack.
